Safe For The Moment—an ongoing series of works on paper that traces how stress imprints itself on the body over time. Gina D’Emilio investigates the cycles of fear and anxiety, and how those psychological states manifest physically, creating patterns that are difficult to break. Her work reflects a deep interest in how the body carries stress, and how these repetitions shape both individual and collective experience.
Through drawing, print, and paint, D’Emilio builds layered compositions that mirror these fluctuations. Reflective papers shift from warm to cool, echoing gradual or sudden turns in mood, while fluorescent and phosphorescent pigments map states of calm and rupture. By treating color and form as registers of emotional and physical tension, she makes visible the often-invisible rhythms of stress and endurance, rendering the fragile balance between turmoil and resilience.
How Endings Begin is a series of works on paper.
